A twelve year old girl and her sister were forced to sit in a chair and watch while their stepfather put a gun in his mouth and blew his brains
out. Obviously an event such as this would be traumatizing to say the least. Nightmares, loss of trust for anyone, anger, fear, social seclusion,
academic decline, despair, depression, and confusion. All of which can lead to drugs, alcohol, suicide, and gang activity to name a few. This
young girl withdrew from everyone, her grades plummeted to failing and anger dictated her life. Most people in her life had all but given up
on her to change. Today this young girl is an honor student, she is no longer the rebellious foul mouth kid that trauma produced. Through
strength, confidence and power this young girl now has the ability to become a champion of life.
An eight-year-old boy puts a gun to his head and tries to commit suicide but he doesn't have the strength to pull the slide and chamber the
bullet. His dad is in prison for drugs, his mom is also doing time, he was failing every subject in school (that is when he even went to school)
and he fought with someone every day. Today he is an honor student, he is active in sports, and he is both appreciative and kind. He has now
become a roll model for other kids in despair. Through strength, confidence and power this young man now has the ability to become a
champion of life.
One young boy fell asleep every night while banging his head against the headboard of his bed. With each stoke he repeated to himself, “I am
no good – I’m stupid and I’m clumsy – that’s why daddy hates me.” This kid was an at-risk-youth and today he is a World Jujitsu Champion
and a very successful adult.
A nine-year-old girl was repeatedly sexually assaulted by her uncle. She eventually became withdrawn but she dare not tell what had been
happening to her. The scum told her like so many other innocent victims that if she said anything, she would be to blame and everyone would
be mad at her. This little girl believed him because after all he was no stranger; he was mommy’s brother. Through strength, confidence and
power this little girl over came her fear of being blamed. Today she is a successful 23-year-old attending Penn State while her uncle is finally
where he belongs… State Pen.
The kids in these stories all have something in common, they are all children from West Virginia and they are all products of BCI’s at-risk-youth program,
“Problem-Solution-Change.” With your help we can continue to instill hope in those who feel hopeless. With your help we can continue to produce champions of life.
Problem, Solution, Change (PSC) is a multifaceted self-improvement program designed for less fortunate boys and girls ranging from the age of 6 to 16 years old. It was
developed in 1999 by Martial Arts Hall of Fame member, Ernie Boggs while working with at-risk-youth in Oxnard, California. Since then Mr. Boggs and his program have
made significant gains in changing the lives of at-risk-youth who may have otherwise become lost to today's society. The PSC program is both physically and mentally
rewarding with the primary focus being on academic achievement. The means of becoming a productive adult is stressed as students are taught “Nine Life Skills”
required for attaining a happy and successful life. This is an in-kind sponsorship program where as for every child sponsored by you or your business is equally matched
by Mr. Boggs.
The PSC program is divided into three categories, each focusing on a specific challenged group;
1. Little Warriors: The Little Warriors class was developed for at-risk-youth between the ages of 6 and 12 years old. The background of these children may consist of
being abused, neglected, or economically disadvantaged. There is something missing in their lives that trust, friendship, and self-worth can change. These kids have all
the potential in the world to become productive adults, they lack only opportunity. They have the desire as much as the need to be there, but just can't afford it.
2. Troubled Teen: This is a module called CBC (Character Building Course). This course deals with kids 13 to 16 years old who basically have similar backgrounds
as the “Little Warriors” but they have already entered the arena of crime. This is a physical as well as a mentally challenging course focusing on the improvement of
one's character. These kids are often court-appointed to our program.
3. Physically Challenged: Thirdly, PSC works with physically challenged children as well as adults. The focus is primarily on individuals who have suffered from head
trauma or brain injuries. This class has made remarkable changes in the students' ability to improve or maintain balance, thought retention and personal self-esteem.
A sponsorship pays for the following:
